In conjunction with the cookbook, Dr. Robert Su, one of the featured doctors, has produced a podcast featuring the cookbook authors. Here is just a brief bio of Dr. Su:
He was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1942 and graduated from School of Pharmacy, former Taipei Medical College in 1965. He also finished his residency in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia in 1974. He has been in private practice in anesthesiology and pain management since 1974. He continued to practice pain management full time until 2006. He continues to practice pain management, part-time, with acupuncture.
It always a blessing and curse to be featured on an interview. I love the opportunity to retell my story, but the challenge is trying to tell it effectively without too many Ums or Ahs. The podcast was definitely a pleasure to learn more about my fellow authors in their own words. Reading their blogs give you an idea of their “voice” or personality, but actually hearing their story makes it that much better. It is quite evident the wide range of history and experience from Maria’s scientific understanding of how the sugar affects your vitamin uptake to Lisa’s Diner system to make following a low carb lifestyle simple to follow to Carolyn’s history in baking. Some things that impressed me were Carolyn’s experience with baking and love of baking. (Baking is always one of those topics that I am less proficient or experienced. I would much rather cook the main dish.) It is great to have a nutritionist like Maria validate that there are great professionals still in that field not simply following “group think” of low or no fat being the only answer. The other thing that struck me was how many of them were doing low carbing not for weight loss but for the health aspect first.
Finally, I was struck by how many different ways to approach low carb cooking. None of them is necessarily the best, but each cook’s inner style can work themselves out.
